I am a public theologian and pastor inspired by the theological ethics of Reinhold Niebuhr, the American pragmatism of Cornel West, and the postmodern discourses of Michel Foucault. I served a career in the Navy before doing full-time writing and pastoring. I am skilled in Leadership Development, Teaching, Preaching, and Public Speaking. I am also a strong community social services professional with master's degrees from the Navy War College, the University of Tennessee, and Yale and a Ph.D. from Claremont. As a scholar, I research and write in areas like theological/discourse ethics, African American Studies, cultural studies, the influence of hip-hop on intellectual discourse (and vice versa), and theories of religion. My first book, Toward a Postmodern Ethic of Radical Freedom (Cascade Books), will be out by this summer. I am working on a book that critiques the canonical absence of non-White theorists in theories of religion.I served twenty-three years as a Navy chaplain. I retired to pursue a career in academia, either as an administrator or professor-though I quickly learned that the world is nearly impossible to break into. Regardless, I am grateful for a life of the mind and ministry and hope to continue making a difference in whatever space bequeath me.
