Perform process capability analyses by product for all paper machines, maintain customer specification database, conduct internal ISO9000 & ISO14001 audits, develop automated Excel / Visual Basic based data analysis tools for pulling data from PI and Testream/CS databases. Managed Quality Assurance & Technical function for facility with zero customer complaints during my tenure. Facility closed due to high raw material costs and dramatic decline in housing starts.

Managed various Six Sigma Black Belt level projects with banked savings of approximately $192,000 per month ($2.3 MM annually). Oversaw installation of visual grading systems at multiple Huber Engineered Wood (HEW) facilities.

Implemented ISO 9001-2000 compliant Quality Management System throughout HEW including establishment of internal audit process and installation of QSolve online document control system. Responsible for overall planning, coordination, and direction of facility's capital expenditures,maintenance activities, and saw filing with an annual budget exceeding $10 million. Responsible for all negotiations with the Union regarding local Engineering and Maintenance issues

Functional Manager for Technical, Quality Assurance, Product Development, Process Reliability, Shipping, Scheduling, and Transportation functions at Elkin NC OSB, winner of Weyerhaeuser's Corporate Manufacturing Excellence Award in 1998 and 1999, and the Corporate Safety Award in 1999. Prepared and managed annual budget exceeding $10 million. My team consistently maintained 100% participation in behavioral based safety observations, and had the highest per capita number of safety observations at Elkin during 1997 - 2000. Led development effort resulting in Elkin being the first OSB mill in North America to be able to produce a 1-1/4" rim board product meeting stringent Trus-Joist MacMillan guidelines. Pioneered new manufacturing method for engineered strand lumber (ESL) which resulted in approximately 1.5 hours less setup time per run. Worked with plant and Business Financial staff to revise product costing model for enhanced accuracy. Served on Weyerhaeuser's Binder (Resin and Wax) Procurement Purchasing Improvement Effort Team during negotiations which saved Weyerhaeuser $5.5MM during term of contracts covering plywood, OSB, and Trus-Joist. Co-inventor for US Patent # 6,489,037 - Coating for inhibiting stain formation in floor covering.

Functional manager for production, maintenance, and technical areas at Springfield Particleboard mill. Routinely filled in for Plant Manager during absences for vacations, projects, etc. Negotiated with union on local issues. Served as chairman of the '95-'96 National Particleboard Association (now CPA) Task Force on Warp and as a member on several other NPA Task Forces (Linear Expansion, Long Term Formaldehyde Emission Decay, ANSI A208.1 Standard (Particleboard) Review, Technical Literature, and VOC Research Project Oversight. Developed and delivered training session for supervision group regarding principles of empowerment. Managed Information Systems for site.

The Springfield, Oregon particleboard mill set three consecutive annual records for production volume and percentage of A grade product after my assumption of the leadership role for the Quality Assurance Team. We completed '94 and '95 with no lost time accidents. 1994 was the first full calendar year with zero lost time accidents for the facility since startup in 1965. Served as Weyerhaeuser's representative on the Technical Committee of the NPA. Acted as mill representative and technical resource on Weyerhaeuser's Composite Products Division negotiating team for national resin agreements (2 year contracts - approx. $30 MM annually). Coached Total Quality for unit including education of all team members in the use of structured problem solving methodology (proprietary system paralleling DMAIC/DMADV) and various improvement tools such as Ishikawa diagrams, pareto analysis, mistake proofing, value stream mapping, Deming philosophies, value propositions and value delivery. Achieved zero claims in 1993 - 1995 with respect to the targeted features in the countertops market segment. Supervised and championed LAN installation at facility.

Provided technical assistance for customers throughout the western 2/3 of the U.S. and all of Mexico. Services included design layout for new plants, yield improvement, process flow enhancement, process reliability projects, product development, etc. Aided sales personnel in translating customer needs to mill performance requirements. Developed and conducted educational seminars for sales personnel to enhance understanding of the physical characteristics and proper applications of particleboard and MDF. Assisted sales personnel in resolution of significant claims and complaints.

Responsible for sales and primary customer support for Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, western Arkansas, and southern Illinois. Increased annual sales in territory by roughly 62%, from $4.66 million in 1987 to $7.57 million in 1990.

Worked inside sales at the Broken Bow MDF plant while attending the first class of Weyerhaeuser's Industrial Sales Training program.

I was one of the last group hired into Weyerhaeuser's Professional Intern program. I was still on my first assignment when Weyerhaeuser decided to pull the plug. There were about 60 of us in various stages of the program when it was terminated, so I was very happy when I got the offer to go into the Industrial Sales Program in the Composite Products Business.

Co-op assignment in a wood treating facility. This involved some quality testing, but mostly revolved around environmental activities - wastewater treatment, groundwater testing, floodwater impoundment design.
