As VP of Claims Operations for a Medicare Part C HMO located primarily in Houston, TX. I was responsible for improving claims processing that was being done on two different claims platforms in two cities. I worked with staff in both locations to reduce inventory and improve quality. I also began to work with an outsourcing vendor to shift some data entry and claims processing to a team in India. I also helped the company pass a CMS audit in the claims area.

I was VP of Claims and was responsible for claims entry and processing. I over saw direct staff that did data entry and claims processing. I also managed an external vendor relationship and directed an outsourcing claims processing company in Mumbai, India that did the majority of the claims processing. I worked to quickly reduce claims inventory and improved claims processing quality.

Oversaw the Medicare operations front-end claims preparation and processing for Part B and DMERC claims, and two large call centers in TN and NC. Managed a $25M budget and 430 staff in four locations in TN, NC and ID. I was responsible for all claims processing, customer service, enrolling providers and medical review and management on behalf of CMS (Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services) to serve 2.5 million Medicare beneficiaries.

Directed processing of Part B claims along with the mailroom functions, EDI processing and warehousing operations. Directed a staff of 260 and managed a $9M budget. I increased productivity and quality significantly, and reduced operating costs each year.

Analyzed client business needs and procedures, including claims, member services, and EDI claims processing. Assisted clients who purchased CSC healthcare insurance software to setup to process claims to their business specs and to develop new processes to effectively utilize the software. Also assisted with training client staff to use the new software.

Started as Director of Operations, in charge of implementing a claims processing system conversion. I took charge of learning new software and teaching staff how to use. Identified key metrics and implemented new processes and reporting to ensure that work was getting done. I was assigned responsibility for Customer Service and proceeded to establish key metrics and reporting, where I improved service to members and providers. Promoted to Director of Operations Administration where I worked with marketing staff to develop and file new HMO products with the state of Ohio. Also setup the claims system to adjudicate the new benefit packages and trained staff on the new products.
