About Darren Barry

At present, I am the Community Climate Action Officer for Limerick City and County Council where I am aiding communities developing climate action projects through the Community Climate Action Fund.I completed my PhD Thesis in 2017 when I graduated from Mary Immaculate College's Department of Geography Ph.D. program (Awarding Body: University of Limerick). My PhD focused on Climatology and Ecology with an emphasis on climate reconstructions. I have taught for a number of years as a member of the Department of Geography in Mary Immaculate College and the University of Limerick where I assisted and lectured on multiple modules including the Dynamic Earth, Evolution of the British and Irish landscapes, Reconstructing Past Environments, Biogeography and Marine Geography.In 2019, I assisted Tipperary County Council to complete their Climate Adaptation Strategy (2019-2024) which ensures climate adaptation considerations and sustainability measures are mainstreamed into all plans and policies and integrated into all operations and functions of Tipperary County Council. I have also recently published a paper on Sustainable measurement indicators to assess impacts of climate change: Implications for the New Green Deal EraI was a Senior Project Officer in the Development Unit of the Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands and Midwest with a focus across a number of national and internationally funded projects. I was also part of the management team for the Sustainable Development Research Institute within TUS. My primary focus was on Climate Action, Sustainability and Leadership and I worked on a number of Eu funded projects including TripleC, Remarkable, DigiEco and InPlan.
