About Darren Coetsee

I have over 20 years’ experience in Human Resources, having specialised earlier on in my career, in industrial and employee relation. My grounding was in the factories in the Unilever SA companies – which were all unionised. After the generalist HR and Industrial relations roles in Unilever I opened a labour law training and consulting company which is still on-going. Although specialising in labour law training and consulting I was awarded 3 HR Directorship roles on 2 year contracts each, one in the Virgin Group at Virgin Mobile and the another within the JD Group at Blake Holdings. Thereafter, I took on the role of setting up the HR function for a global pharmaceutical organisation, focusing on Africa and Middle East divisions of Serenus Biotherapeutics. It was within these contracts that I gained extensive experience in designing and managing performance management, leadership capacity building, workplace compliance, sourcing and change management.I recently finished an HR generalist role working as a consultant for Capital Hospital Group, helping them commission a Hematology Hospital in Durban. This involved the design and development of the HR function from the beginning to handing over a fully operation function. It also involved sourcing and on boarding all staff for the facility.Currently, I am working on a project at Tradeport Group setting up their Human Resources function and assisting them to corporatise their people processes, policies and systems. This exciting and challenging project is ongoing and it is moving into its fourth year.
