I have been a freelance GIS Data Scientist and Cartography consultant with a keen eye for the clients user experience for more than 20 years delivering high quality and relevant services to large and small organisations. My work experience covers a wide range of business sectors including National Government, humanitarian aid, environmental reporting, international boundary delimitation, oil and gas exploration, telecoms, wind farm analysis, brownfield site remediation, fisheries management and tourism. Having successfully provided resolutions to a variety of demanding roles, from small 2 week to large 21 month projects, I have demonstrated flexibility and an ability to deliver many varied and sometimes overlapping assignments.My educational qualifications include a BSc in Cartography and Computer Studies followed by an MSc in GIS, plus regular attendance of CPD courses have enabled me to stay abreast of technology and new methodologies in the field of GIS.With a logical, intuitive, proactive and focused attention to detail, I provide the ability to manage projects in a timely and effective manner with an ability to bring together stakeholders, explain relevant concerns and offer resolutions to the issues at hand. My flexible approach to work, preference for the ‘Agile’ method of Project Management and a ‘can-do’ attitude, is shown by my involvement in MapAction’s voluntary GIS/deployment team (www.mapaction.org) since 2005, responding to more than 15 emergencies ranging from flooding, Ebola, hurricane / typhoon, earthquake and complex emergencies involving migration. Within MapAction, I have been volunteer, GIS Circle lead, Trustee and heavily involved in developing procedures and processes to improve the effectiveness of MapAction in the field and formulating training plans and exercise scenarios.With knowledge and experience of the GIS life cycle from data capture, data cleaning, QA/QC, data management, map production, quality cartographic provision, analysis, training, results presentation and UX (user experience), I cover the breadth of GIS consultancy services rarely found in one person. I have recently expanded my experience with QGIS and ArcPro so am flexible enough to provide solutions regardless of client budget as I believe that once projects are completed, they should be continued in house rather than as a standalone service which then disappears.My motto: 'make myself no longer required as providing a solution / training so it can be continued without me is my goal'
