As a junior engineer at Aurecon I have been involved largely with the factory testing and commissioning of equipment, and the documentation phases of projects. Equipment such as gas insulated switchgear, low voltage distribution boards, medium voltage transformer and cable protection panels. I review designs ensuring client-specific and SANS standards are met. I ensured quality is maintained during the project procurement and commissioning phases by drawing up Factory Acceptance Testing plans and Quality Control plans. Master's Dissertation (MSc) in electrical engineering. My dissertation topic is the design and prototyping of a Vernier permanent magnet wind generator. I am responsible for the entire design, procurement, and construction phases of the prototype. I thus have experience in a multi-disciplinary design space, as the design of electrical machines involves electrical and mechanical factors. Moreover, the procurement of material required me to draw up a detailed design philosophy and bill of materials which was central to the contract negotiations I conducted with local and foreign manufacturers. The construction and commissioning phase of the machine prototype required me to liaise with electrical and mechanical technicians.

I headed the project of relocating the mine apron feeder drive to another location. I was exposed to both electrical and mechanical aspects of engineering. I was required to use project, time and man management skills. Over the duration of the project I worked with foremen and artisans in conducting the planning of the move and ensuring the preparation procedures were carried out correctly.
