hoodgoods is a grocery delivery marketplace that aims to provide speedy deliveries of groceries to consumers and households. We focus exclusively on empowering small business grocers and convenience stores as sellers on our platform, and in the process - help digitise their businesses.The idea behind hoodgoods came about during the unprecedented lockdown imposed in South Africa, in early 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. The lockdown and the impact of the pandemic has affected all South Africans. Many people have lost their jobs, small businesses are struggling to survive and the inequalities between the ‘haves’ and the ‘have nots’ has never been more apparent.It was at the onset of the lockdown when a group of GIBS MBA friends came together to discuss ideas on how we could be part of the solution. It was through these late night discussions that we realised we all had a common goal – a deep desire to change the South African small business experience. We have positioned ourselves specifically in the convenience goods market as this is where we have found the gap to lie: a lack of an efficient ordering and delivery system for households to purchase convenience goods on demand, affordably and easily.We are a diverse team of individuals from different backgrounds, but we all have one thing in common- we are passionate about using technology to solve social and economic problems facing South Africans. In blending purpose, business skills and technology, hoodgoods came to be.
