About Darren Kirby

I am an IT professional who has worked across many areas including support, delivery and strategy. My career has also taken me through multiple industries and company sizes from 5 employees to 180,000 including technology, manufacturing and retail. I have a broad knowledge of IT but my passion is infrastructure, networking and Cloud.In my current role, I lead a team that shapes Sainsbury’s investments across multiple areas. I work with the team helping to research, create business cases and track benefits ensuring they are delivered across the life of delivery and the strategy. I also work with the wider leadership team on people strategy ensuring we have the right teams with the right skills to gain maximum benefit. I believe that Agile ways of working delivered in the right way has the ability to unlock a huge amount of potential in the vast majority of teams. I encourage a culture of experimentation where possible ensuring teams are open to new concepts and ways of working. From a product perspective, I set my teams to focus on value and payback, ensuring pragmatic prioritisation based on business need to ensure we deliver for the organisation rather than any “pet projects”.
