About Darren Mutter
An experienced operational and strategic leader in children’s social care - with recent experience in adult, housing and public protection in a director role- I have over 25yrs in the industry across public and private sectors. I have extensive experience of change management, service re-design and implementation, and strategy and policy development. I have featured on numerous regional and national multi-agency forums, representing local, regional and national interests in areas such as UASC, fostering and safeguarding. I have also contributed as an expert panel member on several DHRs & CPRs, to a research project on Mothers in Prison alongside the Chief Social Worker for England, and to the reform of care proceedings in England and Wales. My leadership style is primarily transformational in nature, and is centred on a collaborative and inclusive approach to my direct reports, promoting their development whilst ensuring I have robust checks and balances in place for my decision-making responsibilities. I am reflective and considered whilst being sharply analytical and decisive. I have completed an MSc in Management with a research-based dissertation on change management within a corporate acquisition. This has relevance in social work, as well as broader significance in management, communication, and change planning. I also examined in detail, Integrated Marketing Communications, Corporate Strategy and Human Resource Management. I have also completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Strategic and Operational Leadership, have completed a ‘Leading By Example’ course with Oxford Brookes and am currently engaged in a ‘Collective and Compassionate Leaders’ course. I am a fierce advocate for the people I serve as a public servant, encompassing as they do the most vulnerable in society. My practice and approach is values-led and I seek to promote and preside over working cultures that are built on respect, transparency and continuous improvement. A skilled and experienced public orator, I am used to presenting to elected members, liaising with Welsh and central government, and have excellent communication skills across the board. I remain passionate and driven about my profession, expressing as it does the values I hold dear as a person and am always looking for opportunities to increase the impact I can have, whether via my own development or via the nature of the role I occupy.
