Transforming businesses and helping individuals achieve their full potential are two of my key areas of focus. I've also had a life-long passion for aviation after starting out with model airplanes as a child and eventually becoming a flight instructor, charter pilot, Alaska bush pilot, competition aerobatic pilot and corporate jet pilot over the years since then. I continue to fly and teach to this day, while engaging in a variety of business activities.I've come full circle in my life journey and have recently assumed the role of CEO and President of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), the world's largest General Aviation membership organization. This organization is dedicated to protecting our freedom to fly while providing member services and educational content to ensure the vitality of general aviation for generations to come.Prior to AOPA, I most recently led a global team focused on accelerating and scaling better ways to do business as Cisco evolves to a more software-focused, and recurring-revenue oriented business. This requires cross-functional engagement to improve execution across product engineering, customer success, sales, finance and business operations teams.In my previous role, I led Google's Global Customer Acquisitions team, dedicated to driving Google's growth in the advertising space across a diverse set of countries and industries. In this capacity, I was responsible for guiding Sales, Marketing, Market Intelligence and Support teams to attract businesses of all sizes to Google's many advertising services. Our goal was to make businesses aware of how Google's services could help them succeed and to provide them the highest quality on-boarding experience in the industry. Prior to Google, I was a Partner in McKinsey's High Tech Sector and Marketing & Sales Practice, and the co-founder of McKinsey's global Small- and Medium-sized Business (SMB) practice. In this role, I specialized in helping clients to build high-performing sales, marketing, and support channels for serving customers across the spectrum of large enterprises, to small and mid-sized businesses. Before these roles, I held multiple aviation-related roles including managing a corporate flight departments, flying private jets for high net-worth individuals, and I served on the Board of the EAA in Oshkosh, WI for 14 years. I am a frequent speaker on the topics of aviation, innovation, SMB, digital marketing and inspired living, building on the key messages in my best-selling book True North: A Handbook for Inspired Living.
