Kanyirri 220Kv Substation, Port Hedland, Western Australia, Australia

I was engaged as Construction Manager for the FMG Pilbara Transmission 220kV Kanyirri Substation from the Project tender stage in the Perth office through to site setup, Construction and Pre-Commissioning onsite. This involved assisting with estimating, subcontractor selection and engagement, producing project documentation such as Work Packs and CRAW. Site facilities and project materials transport/delivery, team selection and roster were included in my duties. As this site was located outside Port Hedland in the Pilbara region of WA we also had to produce and implement a site Cyclone Management Plan.

Dubbo Regional Rail Maintenance Facility, New South Wales, Australia

Managed a crew consisting of Pipefitters, Plumbers, Welders and Electricians for the wet and dry fire services component of the construction of the Dubbo Rail Maintenance Rail Facility. This was a D+C contract that produced many challenges. To overcome these challenges required close collaboration with both the client and the other contractors on a daily basis.

Scm21 - Olympic Dam South Australia, Australia

Managed E&I Shutdown activities Primarily throughout the Smelter (Hot Works) and I also over saw the works throughout the Non-Hots Area (Gas + Dust, Acid Plant and Feed Prep) whilst that Superintendent was on R+R. Pre-planning including work packs, Labour, plant and material resources. Re-allocation of resources on a shift to shift basis due to staffing difficulties resulting from ever changing border restrictions. A very challenging experience due to a number of issues including Covid 19 restrictions and extremely difficult supply chain problems. Even with the challenges we faced we were able to meet our target dates across the board.

Papua New Guinea

Managed E&I Shutdown activities across Ball Mills, Primary Crusher and JAW Crusher Plants. Pre-planning including work packs, Labour, plant and material resources. Re-allocation of resources on a shift to shift basis due to Covid outbreak and some civil unrest mid Shutdown. A very challenging and educational experience that provided some valuable professional and life lessons.

~ Contracted to CPB for the installation of the lighting power supplies from the tunnel Electrical Equipment Rooms (EER) to the tunnel portal LED lighting for both East and West bound lanes and LED lighting in the MOC 2 Tunnel ventilation building.~ Managed site project construction and pre-commissioning activities under a contract arrangement maintaining effective coordination of resources including labour, materials, and equipment. ~ Ensured budgets were adhered to and prepared schedules accounting for project duration in consideration of primary responsibilities and pre-determined time constraints, and established milestones for ascertaining progress throughout project.~ Provided accurate weekly progress reports to all stakeholders, outlining progress of completed and planned activities, risks and opportunities, safety and quality.~ Facilitated site technical support to the engineering team.~ Ensured, consistent monitoring and maintenance of project quality in line with client specifications.~ Led a team of site coordinators and engineers to consistently meet “best for project results”.~ Performing the role of ‘stand in’ Site Construction Manager as required. ~ Led safety inspections for high-risk activities to identify and evaluate existing and probable risks and hazards and develop mitigation strategies to limit the impact of damages and avoid disruption to project schedule.~ Ensured that all works were completed and adhered to all Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) procedures.~ Read, interpreted and understood detailed drawings, plans and schematics related to the project.

Northern Territory, Australia

~ Managed the design, build and FAT testing of 6 x equipment shelters and the associated power systems for the Mobile Threat Emitter Systems (MTTES).~ Implemented a range of remote monitoring systems including Fire System, Air Conditioning and de-humidifier Status, Internal Shelter Temperature and Humidity and Security System.~ Supervised multi-disciplinary work crew consisting tradesmen, apprentices, and trades assistants, providing support and guidance aimed at enhancing individual capabilities and attributes.~ Leading and championing a positive safety culture on site through the continuous education of personnel, utilising a range of safety tools and supporting their ongoing development of both attitudes and knowledge. ~ Facilitating project construction requirements, liaising with Superintendents, other discipline Supervisors and Engineering, plus wider team support, to ensure the delivery of works on site.~ Monitored and maintained adherence to project compliance as per client requirements~ Provided accurate and timely progress reports to all stakeholders. ~ Liaising with local power authorities regarding access and connection related matters.~ Managed Rosters, Accommodation and transport.

~ Contracted to CPB to manage the review and sign off of Sub-contractors ITP’s and ITC’s for the supply substation for the TBM.~ Led the testing and commissioning works related to the construction completion and hand over of all systems to the major contractor CPB. ~ Established priorities for system turnover allowing for the safe testing of systems while the construction team completed the remaining systems.~ Ensured that all personnel maintained safe systems of work across areas of the project~ Planned activities in accordance with standards and to minimise inefficiencies~ Directed and coordinated the workforce for electrical and instrumentation requirements of the contract~ Participate in safety investigations, reporting and discussions and participated in Quality Assurance audits~ Managed a team of 6 engineers and document controllers to assist the sub-contractor, ensuring that all Punchlist items were closed out in a timely manner and Project documentation was compliant prior to the energisation of the Substation. ~ Effectively leading multi-disciplined teams, promoting cohesion with fellow project personnel, high performance, and a zero-harm focus at all times. ~ Led multi-disciplined teams, promoting a positive safety culture through ongoing mentoring and training utilising a full range of safety tools provided to ensure positive project outcomes with strict adherence to Project and Client requirements.

Sydney, Australia

~ Designed, supplied and Installed LED lighting to walls and ceiling and curved LED screen in the $70M refurbishment of the Star City Casino Grand Foyer.~ Designed supplied and installed LED Scoreboards and Ribbon (perimeter) panels at the new Western Sydney Stadium (Parramatta).~ Coordinated logistics including shipping, customs clearance and delivery of all components from China to Sydney.~ Managed unpacking, inspecting and factory “soak’ test all LED panels before transport to site and installation.~ Held regular meetings with Principal contractor (Shape), along with Star, Head of Contracts to ensure program dates were met and all issues were identified and mitigated promptly.~ Compiled SWP’s and SWMS’s considering multiple SIMOP’s and public access issues. ~ Engaged with subcontractors to assist with the initial delivery and installation of Scoreboard covering a wide range of trades including trucking, rigging, steelwork install and cranes.~ Arranged inductions and training for company personnel and subcontractors including EWP, Work at Heights. ~ Liaised with the principle contractor, LendLease, through daily meetings regarding design, access, SIMOPS, program and contractual issues.

New M5 Tunnel Project, Sydney

~ Conducted interactive workshops with Project Design and Engineering teams to ensure safety and efficiency was at the forefront when planning for procurement, installation, and commissioning methodology. ~ Ensured subcontractors complied with all company and client Quality standards and associated procedures. ~ Meeting with contractors and suppliers to ensure the selection, installation and documentation of all equipment met both Australian and Project standards. ~ Conducting audits of subcontractor MDR to ensure project compliance was being met.~ Maintained regular meetings with Project Engineering team and suppliers/contractors to help resolve design issues and maintain project milestones.~ Liaised with sub-contractor representatives to ensure that all issues that may affect the Project Schedule are resolved in as timely a manner as practicable.~ Monitoring installation by specialist sub-contractors to ensure all work was executed in accordance with project specifications and schedule requirements.~ Providing accurate and timely weekly progress reports to all stakeholders.~ Conducted regular inspections to assess level of progress with regard to schedule, identify and rectify hazards and cases of non-compliance, and review completed work to evaluate quality and recommend improvements.

~ Provided MEP Supervision Construction Monitoring covering HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Safety and Access Control.~ Monitored all project quality assurance services for various aspects of new and remedial construction works Recruited local with appropriate experience and qualifications. ~ Coordinated the inspection and construction observation and monitoring ~ Observed construction activities, including the verification of compliance with contract documents, plans and specifications and identified installation defects~ Produced and maintained daily reports and records of construction activities~ Assisted in the management of local contractors (Chinese, Macanese and Portuguese), in closing out punchlisted items across numerous disciplines.~ Successfully liaised with a wide variety of languages/dialects spoken by contractors and sub-contractors.

Queensland, Australia

~ Managed and coordinated the inspection of vendor supplied 3 x LTS skids, and the 12 x Compressor skids including inspection of Hazardous Area (HA) field equipment/devices and junction boxes to ensure they met all AS/NZ 3000 and AS/NZ 60079 standards.~ Ensured all subcontractors followed Project and Australian Safety Standards during the installation of the 34km 132kv Transmission OH line and Towers between Wooleebee Ck Switchyard and Charlie FCS. ~ Ensured that all subcontractors complied with the Project Quality standards including conducting both field and office inspections to ensure the selection, installation and documentation of all equipment met both Australian and Project standards. ~ Conducted audits of subcontractor MDR to ensure project compliance was consistently being met.~ Maintained daily HSE walkthroughs to ensure all work crews were following Project HSE guidelines. ~ Liaised with sub-contractor representatives to ensure that all issues that may affect the Project Schedule were resolved in as timely a manner as practicable.~ Managed defects and registers ensuring appropriate standards were consistently maintained for successful and timely completion to occur.~ Ensured all project quality records including work lots were carefully collated and filed in accordance with company and contract requirements.

Employed and mobilised a crew of 15 Industrial Electricians for approximately 6 weeks work to assist in the completions and Pre-commissioning of a 104M Solar Power Station near Nyngan in Central West NSW. We completed the works in 4 weeks.

Safe Management of the construction of 3 x 220/33kV switchyards concurrently on a remote mine site in the Pilbara region of Western Australia during the cyclone season. Some of my duties involved engaging and managing subcontractors to ensure their Quality Assurance and Safety systems were to required standards and were maintained throughout the project.

Airport Link Tunnel Project

Construction power, communications and emergency evacuation systems. Installation of all Tunnel Traffic Management, Ventilation, CCTV, Fire Detection & Control and Lighting and Power Systems.

Victorian Desalination Project

Safe Management of 3 x 220kV Switchyards concurrently that were 54kms apart. Engage and manage subcontractors. Ensure their QA and Safety systems were to standard and maintained throughout the project. Dispute resolution. Forecast design issues/modifications and provide client with solutions to ensure program targets were met and maintained.
