Trained as a solicitor at a large firm in Manchester before practising as a company commercial solicitor specialising in buying and selling private companies and businesses; and drafting commercial contracts. Moved to Leeds Beckett University after eight years in practice to teach on the Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice (“LPC”) and became the module leader responsible for business law, commercial law, private acquisitions, tax, insolvency law, competition law, business accounts, writing & drafting, practical legal research, negotiating and professional conduct. Acted as LPC Course Director for six years and guided the course successfully through Law Society Assessment Visits achieving top grades for teaching and learning, student support, assessments; and quality assurance and enhancement. Established the Professional Mentor Scheme for law students which is still used by students to network and make contacts in the legal profession.Worked as an external examiner for a wide range of institutions including the University of Cardiff, University of Central Lancashire, University of Westminster, Anglia Ruskin University, University of Huddersfield and the University of Law.Teach on the law, accountancy and business undergraduate courses including employment law, contract law, sports law, commercial law, company law, corporate & business law, human rights, english legal system, legal skills and career development. Main interests are law and football so I enjoy the opportunity to combine the two. Acted as a non-executive director and company secretary of a Football League club and have also provided legal assistance to local non-league and junior football clubs. Involved in the supporters trust movement and helped to set up industrial & provident societies and co-operatives on behalf of football supporters.Member of UCU Branch Committee supporting UCU members in work related cases and disputes.
