The principal role of this position is to ensure that the grades for which I am responsible are assessed, coached and briefed as required to ensure they remain competent to carry out their roles and responsibilities. Key points of the role: - Direct management of 4 Competence Managers,2 Driver Managers and 120 drivers across 2 Depots (Swansea and Gloucester). - Compliance with our Safety Case, legislation, Railway Group and First Group Standards, and the Railways (Safety Critical Work) Regulations 1994. - The management of all traincrew sickness and to ensure the Management for Attendance process is properly applied across the Driver Manager teams. - To ensure all activities are delivered in a compliant and safe manner and reflect accurately FGWs Codes of Conduct. - Control budgets and expenditure within my remit. - The undertaking of formal disciplinary hearings. - The Chairing of meetings with Union Representatives. - Ensure that all safety of the line incidents are fully investigated. - Input into rostering & diagramming. - Co-ordinate and deliver training activities. - Conduct Interviews when required. - Work service trains subject to relevant competency in terms of route and traction knowledge where necessary and log any instances. - Liaise and co-ordinate with other departments, functions and suppliers as necessary.
