About Darren Stevens

What happens when you upgrade to a new banking system? While the promise of a modernized system beckons, the integration process can be a minefield of hidden dangers that threaten to cripple your operations.I founded Avato after helping one of Canada’s largest credit unions resolve system incompatibilities stemming from a core banking conversion.I created a fast, flexible, and cost effective way to connect disparate systems through their native interfaces without expensive vendor modifications. This solution went live in 2013 and has since become known for record-breaking integration implementation times with few to zero post-go-live issues. Now, we’re helping other highly regulated organizations who need to modernize systems to enable the seamless, connected experiences that today’s customers expect.Struggling with a complex banking system integration project? Deadline looming and costs mounting?Need a partner who understands the complexities of banking system integration and knows how to make it all work?Avato can help. DM me or book a discovery call to discuss your needs.

Founded software company to simply and securely connect enterprise systems using industry best practices, SOA patterns and the Avato hybrid integration platform. Designed and developed initially for use at one of Canada’s largest credit unions to eliminate integration issues, the solution produced an immediate dramatic reduction in risk and project costs during a major core banking upgrade. Then, throughout its first year in production, Avato sustained a flawless track record, with zero defects, lost messages or outages while processing over 400 million messages. Now available and fully customizable for any integration project, Avato provides sustainable, flexible maintainable message routing, logging, queuing and transformations, and “runs like a brick” with virtually no visible performance impact. As a J2EE application, Avato is a powerful, polite and welcome guest in any Java or .Net enterprise application environment.Based in downtown Vancouver BC, with a satellite office in Victoria, BC, Avato provides products and services to organizations including Coast Capital Savings Federal Credit Union, Provincial Health Services Association (PHSA), Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA), Fraser Health (FHA), Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), Interior Health (IHA) and others in the financial services and health care industries.

Greatly enhanced the Avato platform to include new constructs leveraging XSLT, HTML5 and J2EE, delivering 33 mission-critical interfaces and web services. Designed and implemented new forms of automated testing and information aggregation logic controls based on XSLT, invented new day-in-the-life record/playback features for testing interface traffic under real-world scenarios, and added new capabilities to the T24 banking system including automating the BrowserWeb user interface from another desktop application, implementing new XML-oriented data exchange mechanisms, and consolidating other information systems behind a newly refined federated enterprise services layer, reducing costs by minimizing the need to customize the core banking system itself. Supported the project through a tremendously successful go-live and used Avato to identify issues with connected systems, providing critical information and guidance across technology vendors, and to minimize conversion day member impact to under 2 minutes. To date, Avato continues to operate flawlessly, with no reported post-go-live defects, in keeping with the tradition established by the initial 1.0 launch in 2013.
