I am an experienced charity chief executive and trustee who has worked for more than 27 years in the voluntary sector. I have considerable experience of: providing strategic leadership and operating at senior management team level; driving growth and organisational sustainability; enhancing organisational impact; leading and developing people; designing and implementing change programmes; and ensuring the smooth running of day-to-day operations.As someone who dropped out of further education as a young person, and became increasingly isolated and lacking in confidence, my life was transformed through volunteering with the UK charity The Conservation Volunteers. This led to employment with them, as a Project Officer in Nottingham, and progression through numerous roles to become Chief Executive in 2017, a role I held for six years. Nowadays, I work alongside a fantastic team of staff and volunteers at Base 51, a charity that supports 11-25-year-olds in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.I continue to volunteer today: I am a Trustee for Nottingham & Nottinghamshire Refugee Forum, a local charity that supports asylum seekers and refugees in gaining just outcomes, rebuilding their lives, and integrating into society; and I am an occasional mentor to charity leaders through the mentoring programme of ACEVO, the membership organisation that, together with their network, inspires and supports civil society leaders through connection, skills, and influence.
