About Darren Austin
I am an experienced and passionate sports physiotherapist with a strong background in strength & conditioning providing high end injury diagnosis, injury management and rehabilitation in both elite sporting team environments and clinical practice.I am currently employed part time at Geelong Football Club across both VFL and AFL as well as private practice at Alphington Sports Medicine Clinic - a large and well respected sports medicine clinic in Melbourne. These include the Australian Men's Olympic Volleyball Team, Victorian Fury Netball Team in the Australian Netball League, Australian Rules Football with Coburg Tigers and Balwyn Tigers Football Clubs, and Victorian Bushrangers Cricket Team. These experiences have helped me develop a comprehensive knowledge of sports and musculoskeletal related injuries, clinical decision making skills, athletic load management and injury rehabilitation. I have previously worked as a physiotherapist in a large hospital in Melbourne. For six years I utilised these skills whilst working as the Head Physiotherapist to the Men's Volleyroos - The Australian Men's Olympic Volleyball Team during their qualification for the 2016 Rio & 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. My role not only as physiotherapist but also as strength and conditioning coach was to conduct pre-season physiotherapy screenings, implement injury prevention strategies, competition preparation, high level injury assessment and management, rehabilitation programs, strength and conditioning programs and athlete monitoring. During my time with this team i managed acute, chronic, overuse and load management injuries for over 14 players nationally and internationally.I have represented Australia and Victoria in Kayaking and Swimming so have a deep understanding of what it takes to train and compete at an elite level. I have a keen interest in research with a publication in the Journal of Knee Surgery, Traumatology, Arthroscopy.
