Not only an issue for us as infantry soldiers but also to personal security too. Having spent time building relationships and training with London Met with their Counter-UAS capabilities and deploying as an observer/reporter with Hampshire Police, myself and a small team of passionate hardworking Royal Marines are working tirelessly to fight procurement processes in order to obtain the best Counter-drone equipment for the modern soldier. Essential technology for what is now the future of warfare. Already proven to change the battle-space with a highly reduced risk of life, for a relatively low cost.

Qualified and Tasked with flying S2 Class RPAS (Remote Piloted Aerial Surveillance) Drones BVLOS. Tasked with assisting MAB operations in Afghanistan and logged 300 hours flight time using mainly fixed wing aircraft. Also carry Air440/PFCO for smaller S1 class drones. Obtained Additional qualification of military RPAS Captain to enable supervision of drone training and development. The role includes understanding the 1ISR Brigade Flying Order Book and Air Safety Management Plan (set by The Deputy Commander of Surveillance) and a good working knowledge of the Manufacturer Air System Document set and Release to Service document set. Duties include being entirely responsible for the safety of the RPAS and Detachment Personnel and equipment both in the air and on the ground. Captains must ensure that; The Detachment is properly constituted and all are Qualified, current and capable of performing duties.All Det members are properly clothed and equipped for their tasks and familiar with emergency procedures.All necessary flight planning has been carried in accordance with the air system document set.An Appropriate met briefing has been obtained.All pre-requisite steps have been taken to prepare the RPAS for flight and the appropriate MOD forms have been inspected and signed.Correct airspace planning, communication and navigation procedures are carried out prior to and during flight, in order to ensure that the detachment respond to orders from the airspace control authority and the RPAS remains within designated airspace.Appropriate post-flight procedures are completed.Comms at launch and recovery sites are adequate.Occurrences are reported as per U1600 regulation.
