Alltel
My role within Data Services Engineering was 3gAAA Platform Architect. This platform provides Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting (AAA) services for Alltel’s 14 million wireless data customers. As Platform Architect, I have designed and implemented an architecture that excels in the areas of high availability, scalability, flexibility, and manageability. The platform maintains an availability record of 99.999% through the use of multiple redundant nodes. The flexible architecture enables rapid deployment of new services, consistently on or ahead of schedule, enabling revenues of over $12 billion annually. The scalable design supports transactional growth of 300% annually. Integrated management features ensures consistent configuration, and reduces operational complexity.Additional responsibilities include: Oversight and guidance for the engineering team, establishing departmental policies and procedures, provide tier four operational support, review and approval of all changes, management of annual capital budgets up to $6 million, training of both internal and external personnel, primary point of contact for extra-departmental personnel, developing and maintaining third party interfaces, mentoring of peers, evaluation of new technologies, and managing vendor relationships. The 3gAAA Platform utilizes technologies provided by various vendors, including: Alcatel-Lucent, Sun/Oracle, and the Open Source community. Some of the specific technologies in use include: Alcatel-Lucent 8950 AAA, Sun Directory Services Enterprise Edition, Java Web Services (via Apache Tomcat), syslog-ng, Java, PERL, and UNIX shell scripting.
