After leaving the Burton Group I worked as a sole trader in Shorditch [London] and then after a few years formed a partnership with my sister Joanne Lloyd, relocating to Potters Bar.We built a Graphic Design consultancy. Originally manually artworking and illustrating brochures and printed matter, we moved onto typesetting and page-layout using our first Apple Macintosh, then we added the design of exhibition and window displays and point of sale graphics. With the growth of the internet we moved into digital design.With the project complexity and fast growth of the company we formed DLD Design Limited which served mainly a business to business client base with some work for blue chip clients like LloydsTSB.
I joined Harry Fenton preparing window display designs in the studio, designing graphic promotions and co-ordinating logistics of display kits with detailed sketch instructions how the windows should be dressed. I worked until the company was bought by The Burton Group.I was selected to move to the West End of London, working in the Top Man Display Studio then promoted to Grahic Design Manager for all menswear chains. I created campaigns for each of the chains, and bought print to the value of £1m pa. I then was offered the position of Graphic Design & Display Manager of Champion Sport, a new sportswear division. Working for Champion Sport for 3 years i increased the stores from 4 to 260, hiring 5 regional visual merchandisers. We were chosen to dress Burton Group conferences and AGM's at the height of the 80's boom during the infamous Ralph Halpern years.I left to start my own company when it became clear that there was no prospect of a higher position within the group.
I passed my 'A' level art examination 1 year earlier than the official curriculum.
Activities and Societies: Founded and ran The Photography Club, plus was a member of The Chess Club & Art Club. I was a prefect.
