About Darren Majak

Ever since I was a kid, I was obsessed with taking things apart, putting them back together or making something new out of random materials. There is this great deal of satisfaction I get when I am able to understand how unique elements function and when combined, produce something useful and memorable. Continuing on with this passion, I pursued my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Electrical Engineering at the University of Alberta. Through those journeys, I got to wear many hats and gained various skills that moulded me into a tenacious problem solver, active collaborator, and innovator - characteristics that will enable me to work in various industries in different roles and capacities. Although my background has been deeply engrained in the Engineering world, I always viewed Engineering as a way of thinking, a mindset, and an approach to creating something to improve people's lives. Regardless of my formal title or position, I will always be curious, data-driven, and eager to explore solutions to ongoing people's problems. Whether it is an Electrical Engineering, Data Scientist, or even a Strategy-related job, I am confident that I will add value to the organization.Outside of work, I spend most of my time renovating our 1940s home with my partner and going to local coffee and pastry shops on the weekend. I am a big foodie too so I balance it out by swimming, going to Crossfit and running in Edmonton's beautiful trails. I also volunteer as the Chair, Community sub-council for the Engineering Young Alumni Council sponsored by the University of Alberta - Faculty of Engineering. When able, I love travelling to different countries and experiencing different cultures, food, and languages (p.s. I speak fluent English, French and Portuguese, and some Mandarin and Filipino). If you want to chat more about my experience, don't hesitate to reach out!
