The very pinnacle of professional skippering jobs in New Zealand - IMO.65 foot power cat operating out of Auckland's Viaduct - 100 passengers, 5 crew - spending the days looking for (and finding) whales and dolphins and then coming home every night for dinner. Making people happy - I loved it.And then COVID arrived.

As the Digital Marketing Manager of a marine tourism company I was able to use my entire skillset from Web Development right through to my understanding of boats and on water operations – I was perfectly suited for this role. My responsibilities within the company was to maintain and develop 7 websites which consisted of 4 primary brands. Taking online bookings well in excess of 5 million a year meant that I was responsible for mission critical systems at both the technical level and the SEO/marketing level. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here. Unfortunately however, due to company restructuring I now face redundancy in December 2016 so the feelers are going out to find my next great adventure.

A start up company with great vision and a awesome product which sadly failed to get off the ground. This was - ummm... a learning experience.

Living two lives as I built my reputation up among the Auckland based Charter Vessels. During the weeks I wear my IT hat, on the weekends I wear my Captains hat.

The start of my return to the sea. During my time in IT I could hear the sea calling me every single day.It was time for a cool change.

Working in the .NET space from UI to SQL and everything inbetween.

Primarily my role at Terabyte is to ‘look after’ one of their clients who has 4 individual high traffic and mission critical websites. I am currently responsible for all development, integration and upgrades involving these sites.

I was employed by BKA as a Senior Developer responsible for the creation of websites and the integration of HTML and UI Design into Umbraco. I was also responsible for custom functionality and extending Umbraco to better match the client’s needs.

In March 2010 I started my role and Les Mills International as Senior Web Developer. During this time I was tasked with learning and deploying SharePoint 2010, generating BI reports using Report/Annalist Server as well as modifying, upgrading and maintaining lesmills.com and multiple other in-house Intranet projects.

My services were employed by Counties Manukau District Health Board to help better streamline in house processes and work flows. This required the creation of a custom built CMS with work flow and change tracking for their procedural documentation and also the creation of a Business Case application – allowing the creation of CAPEX in an online environment and in a centralised manner.

Been a large project management organization responsible for many of this country’s largest construction projects and employing over 1600 staff members, Connell Wagner has many manuals detailing in-house processes which staff are required to follow during the course of a projects life span. Previously these manuals were in printed format which presented many ongoing issues – from out dated versions right through to staff members being unable to find the manuals around the offices. My role here was to digitize these manuals and create an Intranet based application in which to store and display those – effectively centralizing them (versioning issues solved) and placing them in a location where all staff had ready access to them all of the time.It is estimated by Connell Wagner that this one simple project saves the company over 1 million dollars per year in lost staff time. Having completed the digitization of their manuals – we then decided to extend the application by creating the ability for staff members to actually insert their projects into the manuals. This allowed the ability to raise flags when steps were missed or overlooked during the course of a projects life span and it drastically reduced the levels of non-compliance (therefore legal liability) of all projects within the company – an issue involving many billions of dollars. These two projects are fantastic examples of business intelligence and the embracing of web based technologies.

During my time at Datacom I had the opportunity to work with, create and develop many of New Zealand’s most successful web sites. • 1 year as a UI Designer,• 6 years as a UI Developer,• 2 (+/-) years as an ASP and .NET Developer,

Coming from one of the oldest fishing families in New Zealand and having grown up around and on boats it seemed only fitting that my first venture out into the world was as a Fisherman. Commercially fishing all along New Zealand's coastline in roles ranging from deckhand to skipper.
