Overall management of HR and OH&S across the 50+ store network nationally and head office.

Reporting directly to the CEO, Darren was responsible for the ongoing management of the HR, L&D, IT, Customer Service and Distribution teams having 5 direct reports and 20 dotted line reports. Having ultimate responsibility for all things people and the execution of this strategy across three states, the primary mandates of the role was to review all company policies, processes and governance, create a high performance culture and reducing head office cost. Having joined the company in the capacity of GM Human Resources, Darren was quickly identified as being able to take on other portfolios due to his vast commercial experience and thus during the restructure his role broadened to include other areas of the business.

Having joined the company in a Business Partner capacity, Darren was promoted to Executive Manager after twelve months. Reporting directly to the COO, with a dotted line to the CEO, Darren had national responsibility for all of the people function of the business. Darren joined the Senior Management Team and maintained the position until his departure. Upon taking the new role, Darren’s mandate was to create a great place to work for everyone in the organisation. Furthermore, in light of the company’s encouragement of transfers from state to state and abroad, Darren was required to create an environment which allowed for consistent management practices, adherence to company policy and process, and to provide a platform for uniform and transparent performance management. Darren had a very close working relationship with the COO and served as his go to person during his tenure.
