After providing years of IT support whilst employed in other positions, I finally decided to make it my primary focus when I found my self unemployed in April 2022.After a couple of failed applications, I soon found myself new employment in my first IT Support Role with Domino Printing Sciences. This has been a mix of 1st Line and 2nd line support with lots of hands-on tasks supporting around 100 on site staff. The job has finally allowed me to utilise my years of self learning as well as enabling me to gain new skills working with some fantastic supportive colleagues.In my spare time I have turned my attention to advancing my IT knowledge in the field of Cyber Security. Utilising both freely available courses on you tube and paid for courses on sites such as Stackskills and Idunova, I have completed 4 different tutorials all teaching the CompTIA Security+ course, a couple of ethical hacking courses, the CompTIA CySA+ course, a Kali Linux course, plus began subscribing to various cyber security news sites.I also Just attended my first Infosec Europe Conference in London which gave me a great insight to a carrer in cyber security plus excellent hands-on experience of the different tools and applications available to assist with detecting threats.I know I have a long way to go, and 100's more hours of video tutorials to watch over the next 12-18 months just to give me a full picture of the cyber security landscape. I will then look to taking my learning down a particular pathway, whether that be Ethical Hacking, Red Hat Teaming, Blue Hat Teaming, SOC Analyst or any of the other opportunities available, with my eventual objective to eventually move away from IT support and into Security.
