About Dr. Darryl Bautista, Ph.D.

I earned my Ph.D. from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto with a focus in Curriculum Studies and Teacher Development. For my thesis, I adopted an Arts-Based Educational Research (ABER) methodology and explored cultural identity within my lived history as a Canadian Educator. I have been with Seneca Polytechnic since 2019. For 2024, I was seconded to the Office of Reconciliation and Inclusion as Associate Director Inclusive Curriculum. Currently, I am with the Academic Quality team as the Associate Director of Reconciliation and Inclusion Curriculum. I hope to continue my passions for re-conceptualizing curriculum, re-envisioning diversity and inclusion policy and encouraging more digital learning practices.Previously, I was the Manager, Academic Programs in the School of English and Liberal Studies (SELS) working with approximately 100 contract faculty members. I supported new faculty and experienced professors and worked with students as well. I joined SELS as contract faculty and my online asynchronous course introduced concepts of Media and Pop Culture. I also taught COM classes for first year students. For me, educators collaborating within a community of practice - to teach, to learn from and to support each other - is an authentic educative journey. To be a part of this milieu that helps build a community of practice is my ultimate professional goal.
