About Darryl Davenport
Darryl Davenport started Ballroom Dancing when he was seven years of age and has currently been teaching Ballroom Dancing for over 30 years. Darryl has vast experience teaching group and private lessons from beginners to advanced dancers. Darryl is a multiple State, Australian and New Zealand Professional DanceSport Champion and has coached multiple State and Australian Champions. Darryl is registered with DanceSport Australia as a Professional Coach and Adjudicator.Darryl has always had an interest in sharing his love and passion for dance starting back in 2003 when he taught movement to disabled students for the Active Foundation. He was instrumental in starting Perth’s only same sex not-for-profit class, OUTdance, in 2001 and has been coach of the Western Australian Masters Formation Team since its incorporation in 2014. Darryl has been a driving force for Ability Dancing (for people with intellectual disabilities), blind and vision impaired dancing and Wheelchair Ballroom Dancing (Para Dance) in Western Australia. Darryl was a founding member and is the current Chairman of Para and Ability Dance WA, advocating for dancers living with a disability.Darryl moved on to spread his passion for the arts in providing opportunities for expression through dance for individuals of all ages and abilities establishing his business ‘Ballroom Fit’ in 2017. Ballroom Fit is an NDIS registered provider. I’m 2020 Ballroom Fit was awarded the Western Australian Disability Sports Association Community Service Provider of the Year.Darryl has a strong community focus reflected in his work towards establishing classes catering to the elderly and disabled. Darryl has vastly influenced the Western Australian Dance scene, earning him the 2019 Curtin University Alumni Community Service Award and 2021 City of South Perth Community Citizen of the Year for his outstanding dedication and service to his community. He aspires to continue this journey towards inclusive dance.Darryl’s resolve in focusing on individuals’ abilities, not their disabilities, has led to the vast success Ballroom Fit is known for today. With a highly capable and qualified ensemble of staff members specialising in different backgrounds of dance, education and catering to special needs, Ballroom Fit has flourished in the disability dance sector, differentiating from competing dance schools to cater to every individual clients needs.2021 City of South Perth Community Citizen of the Year2020 WADSA Community Service Provider of the Year2019 Curtin University Alumni Community Service Award
