Experienced communications manager with a strong background in social media, videography, technology, and internal organizational improvement.Key Skills:- Editing and writing skills- Videography- Effective communication skills- Social media management- Innovation- Speech writing- Digital media - Problem solving- Introducing new toolsBackground: I studied Philosophy at McGill University and Journalism at Concordia University. Both trained me how to explain complicated things and to ask questions if I didn’t understand something. Journalism school had taught me how to craft compelling narratives, how to research and fact-check, and how to write with clarity and precision. These were all skills that translated to the world of communications. While still in school, I worked part-time at a non-profit. It was good chance to see what worked. Although I was technically in charge of the one-person department, I got good guidance from members of the board of directors. Those early connections led to two more jobs—at an e-learning company, and a marketing-communications firm. Then after a brief stint at an Internet company, I was hired by the City of Côte Saint-Luc to run the Department of Public Affairs and Communications. The management part of the job was new but it was a good way to add those skills. Making budgets is still boring to me, but it gives one the ability to introduce new initiatives, which I enjoy. My main production areas are copywriting, social media content, e-mail marketing, online forum moderation, videography, and photography. My team is awesome so sometimes we let them go on vacation. When they do, I pinch hit in graphic design, desktop publishing, website administration, and translation.
