The second of two stints at Cross Country TV program, this time in a senior television reporter and producer role. This role involved working with some of Australia's premier rural and government organisations to create TV content to educate, inform, and motivate farmers. During the 1990s Cross Country was instrumental in producing positive culture change in many of Australia's key agriculture industries.Cross Country was the premier rural affairs program on Australian commercial TV. It ran from 1989 to 1999, predominantly on the Prime and Seven networks. We created 30 minutes of industry-focussed TV for broadcast each weekend.It was always more than just a TV show; Cross Country was a vehicle for stories of innovation, research, and marketing undertaken by various rural industry bodies on behalf of Australian farmers. With a strong focus on working with the agendas of our funding organisations, we applied strategic communication thinking to quality broadcast video production.

As one of the on-air reporters, my stories covered the gamut of general news, environment, business and rural news, disasters, crises, celebrities and human interest. What I Iearnt:☞ writing to pictures, with speed and structure; ☞ honing a narrative to its essentials; ☞ use of a full palette of narrative techniques in a concentrated short-form video platform. Ideal preparation for taking our clients' stories into the online video marketplace.

Crows Nest

The first of two stints with the premier rural affairs program on Australian commercial TV. My role spanned writing and presenting commodity market reports, stories about agricultural science, on-farm innovation, natural resource management (eg Landcare), and marketing, and the odd advertorial.This was like making a couple of corporate videos a week - since each story in the show helped a sponsor organisation maintain a vital communication channel with their rural stakeholders.
