Entries have increased three fold from the inaugural event in 2010.At the beginning of March 2011 I attended The ICLEI Climate Solutions for Africa Congress where the main theme was Africa’s level of Adaptive Capacity. A highlight was attending the Mayoral Roundtable to discuss meaningful solutions and structures at the Local Municipality level.With assistance from the board of directors I manage the daily activities of the organisation which the majority of the time includes building membership, providing support to GHG Assessors and assisting carbon project stakeholders.

Global Carbon Exchange (GCX) is a carbon and energy management company which assists companies with the development of a sound sustainability strategy to establish an eco-competitive advantage thereby creating economic, environmental and social value.I was Business Development Manager responsible for identifying my clients risks and opportunities associated with climate change after completing numerous projects including greenhouse gas (GHG) audits, energy efficiency audits, education programmes to build capacity, adaptation studies, green building assessment and carbon project development.I assisted companies with the investigation of alternative energy possibilities and projects.Examples of interesting projects included assisting Highveld Steel and Vanadium Corporation with their Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) submission in 2010, a solar PV power plant in partnership with Sustainable Projects on a remote island in Mozambique, the BMW Eco 1000 Carbon Footprint with World Sport and a carbon analyst education project with Unilever.This was a memorable experience as it was an opportunity to engage individuals from the corporate, industrial, mining, agricultural and retail sectors.

CapeBlue Estates is an established real estate company owned and operated by family members. I was responsible for sourcing clients, planning and sales of new developments, advertising and for residential/commercial sales of existing property focusing on the top end of the market. Furthermore, I assisted with the administration of the organisation with regards to both staff and finance.My specialty over the last twenty-four months was property investment with the focus on off plan developments. More accurately I offered investment packages in association with a local company called Coler Wealth Management, both local and abroad, to interested investors and/or speculators, usually with rental return guarantees. In association with another local company called Queensgate we marketed similar opportunities out of Brisbane, Australia to South African investors.A memorable development to have participated in was Lagoa Azul off the West African coast.CBE purchased an old Manor House which we converted into a 4 star 5 bedroom guesthouse named Capeblue Manor. I was involved with the renovation, marketing and operation of the guesthouse.During my time at CBE I assisted in the planning and overview of our construction projects in the top end of the market. The past 4 years experience has not only benefited me from broadening my knowledge but, has contributed to my all-round development as an individual.
