My duties as a junior design engineer include site selection, geotechnical/geophysical site investigation analysis, stage capacity analysis, historic and current water balance analysis, slope stability (Deterministic/Pseudo-Static/Probabilistic) analysis, seepage analysis, deformation analysis, dam breach analysis, drainage system design (Under Drains, Above Liner Drains, Filter Drains, Penstock Pipelines, Collection Sump’s, Storm water diversions etc.), FMEA and GISTM compliance, sit inspections, construction supervision etc.

Badat Developments are a Civil and construction project management firm. The firm tenders for projects which lay in both the public and private sectors. Badat Developments had been currently working on two projects. The first project was JITI ( Johannesburg International Transport Intersection) and Khans Meet. Experiences gained at Badat Developments:- Modifying gannet charts using Microsoft Project to account for changes that created delays or advancements in a project time line.- Formulating minutes of meetings.- Communication and public speaking skills developed through weekly meetings with SMMEs, Contractors, Engineers, Architects, etc.Experience gained at JITI:- Understandings on design of water drainage systems (Effects of implementing HDPE pipes in the reinforced concrete columns).- Understandings on aggregate strata (G4, G5, G6, C3 and C4) and their effects on drainage times into stormwater systems.- Design and analysis of man-hole reallocation.- Concrete pour schedule and inspections.- Site inspections on sections of work complete ( perline spacing issues noted and resolved by structural engineer).- Surveying, leveling the curved radius for a retaining wall.Experienced gained at Khans Meet:At the time of employment this site had been acquire recently hence the student was task with ensuring scheduling of meetings as requested by the project lead. The student had to ensure the relevant parties were well informed on the project time line.
