Independent study of Density Functional Theory: from it’s origins in Schrodinger’s equation, simplification through clever approximations, to modern day applications.Exploration of DFT simulation methods, namely Siesta and DeepH. Studied band structures, DoS (Density of States) and ground state structures of 2D materials such as graphene and twisted bilayers.

Through this internship I applied ML models on data collected from a wide range of literature on CMAS-induced corrosion of coatings and superalloys in turbine engines. The model helps understand contributions of each feature in the corrosion reaction in order to understand the overall mechanism.Additionally, in a partnership with NASA, Questek explored Metal Additive Manufacturing over high strength alloys, where I assisted in the characterization of initial alloy designs.Lastly, Questek helped me grow in the laboratory as I got to prepare samples, conduct SEM imaging, hardness testing and porosity measurements.

The metal coordinate bonds, as found in the jaws of some marine worms, offer impressive mechanical properties with possible applications in self-healing materials. We sought to study these properties further by testing the tensile strength of proteins with such bonds. Using steered molecular dynamics we simulated strain on the proteins using NAMD software and track the stress-strain curves. Although this is pure materials research, the possibilities for future applications can ripple into countless fields of engineering.My passion for chemistry stems from the fact that simple interactions between electrons define our complex reality, and this project has helped bring those interactions right to my screen. I continue to learn under LAMM and hope to get involved in similar projects for future experiences.

Working at MIT's Mechanical Engineering GEAR Lab's prosthetic knee project. Applied material science knowledge and tests to reduce clicking sounds during knee extension. Modeled forces of human knee flexion in MATLAB as a function of the length and mass of the leg.

As a part of the nationwide Open Data for Open Redistricting Project, I assisted MEDSL in cleaning data from the 2020 Election cycle. End-users can use our data to study patterns, redistricting, and possible gerrymandering. The public has the right to access this data, and I am proud have helped MEDSL create an honest conversation around Elections.

- Organized paperwork for 3 summers, realizing how inefficient it was- Used my 4th summer to revamp the filing system to be fully digital, leading a team of 5 interns (2019 was good timing)
