In my role within the Science and Research Division, I focus on research related to chemical contamination, with a focus on identifying, assessing, and mitigating potential risks to ecosystems and human health. Through comprehensive studies and analysis, our team works towards developing strategies to address chemical pollutants and safeguard environmental and public health.I am passionate about leveraging my expertise and knowledge to make a meaningful impact in the field of environmental conservation and sustainability. During my tenure as a Research Intern at the Institute of National Security Studies (INSS) from July 4th, 2023, to January 3rd, 2024, I had the privilege of engaging in diverse projects and initiatives that enriched my understanding of various disciplines and fueled my passion for environmental security and other national security aspects as well.Key Contributions:Round Table Discussion Involvement:Actively participated as a team member in Round Table Discussion 09 on "Ensuring Holistic Human Security: Empowering Sri Lankan Child through Safe and Fulfilling Work Environment" and Round Table Discussion 10 on "Blue Economic Strategies to Energize the Economic Development of Sri Lanka: Challenges and Opportunities," where I delivered welcome remarks.Publication Contributions:Authored the first newspaper article on "Impacts of Air Pollution on the Environmental Security of Sri Lanka."Contributed a web article on "The Interplay of Climate Change and Water Shortages in Sri Lanka’s Ecosystems."Submitted a third newspaper article for publication on "Enhancing Flood Resilience in Sri Lanka."Individual Research Project:Conducted an in-depth assessment of e-waste generation in the Western Province of Sri Lanka and its implications on national environmental security.Participation in Round Table Discussions and Research Conferences:Represented INSS at round table discussions hosted by other research institutes such as BCIS and LKI.Participated in research conferences including KDUIRC and Galle Dialogue as a member of INSS.I am grateful for the enriching learning experience during my internship at INSS, and I look forward to leveraging my skills and knowledge to contribute positively to environmental conservation and sustainable development initiatives in the future.

During my internship at the Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation (SLRDC), I had the privilege of immersing myself in a wide range of tasks and projects, gaining practical knowledge, and cultivating ethical principles that are integral to my future endeavors. Here are some highlights of my contributions:Gained insights into the core functions of the Wetland Management Division, understanding the importance of wetland conservation and management.Acquired knowledge about granting conditions for low-lying land development and measures to control unauthorized landfilling, contributing to sustainable land-use practices.Engaged in various projects aimed at environmental improvement and conservation, including:Water Quality Improvement at Beira Lake:Conducted water quality tests at Beira Lake and contributed to the implementation of Floating Treatment Wetlands in the South West Beira Lake area.Management and Restoration of Water Quality at Parliament Catchment.Analysis of detergent usage in Sri Lanka to assess the risk of phosphate contamination in urban water bodies.Development of the Colombo City Biodiversity Index based on the Singapore Index on Cities’ Biodiversity handbook.Participated in documentary works and organized wetland weekend programs to raise awareness and promote conservation efforts.Actively involved in field activities and Wetland Conferences, including participation in conferences hosted by AWS and WLI Asia.Led a research project focused on the assessment of soil seed bank and control methods for Invasive Alien Species Mimisa pigra in Diyasaru wetland, aiming to inform scientific approaches for wetland vegetation restoration (July 2022-February 2023).My internship experience at SLRDC has been invaluable in shaping my understanding of environmental challenges and solutions, and I am committed to leveraging this knowledge to drive positive change in environmental conservation and sustainable development initiatives.
