Daryl Sellar has been involved in the Golf Course and Turf Management industry for over 30 years, completing his Masters Degree in Turf Management in 1999. During this time he has been actively involved in course preparation for tournament, membership, corporate and public use.Since 2000, Daryl has overseen the successful redevelopment of Glenelg Golf Club in Adelaide as Course Superintendent, with the course’s national ranking climbing from the 90s to 28(Golf Australia). There has been a strong focus on the creation of a sustainable course, including the development of an Aquifer Storage and Recharge Scheme as part of a Water Management Plan.In 2006, Daryl received the AGCSA’s Excellence in Golf Course Management Award, and the inaugural Golf Digest Superintendent of the Year Award.He now provides Golf Course Management advice to Glenelg and other golf clubs, as well as consulting on the redevelopment of the historic Adelaide Oval, and providing consultancy services to the Australian Football League, South Australian National Football League, South Australian Cricket Association, Thoroughbred Racing SA, local government and other sectors of the turf industry.He also a Director of Turfkeeper Services, an online turf management system (www.turfkeeper.com.au).Daryl has represented the Turf Industry on the South Australian Government’s Urban Water Drought Reference Group, as well as a Horticultural Industry advisory group to assist Government and SA Water in developing sustainable water use practices within the community. In addition, he has been the HR and Best Practice Manager for the Australian Golf Course Superintendents’ Association (AGCSA), and for seven years was a Turf Management Lecturer at Urrbrae TAFE.Daryl’s golfing background, which saw him represent South Australia at senior and junior level as well as Australia as a junior, enables him to look at the challenges of golf course management from a golfing and greenkeeping perspective.
