Born 12 miles West of New York City in Newark, New Jersey — Daryl graduated from the first high school of fine and performing art established in the United States, Arts High. He has an MFA in Advertising Design from Syracuse University, and a BFA in Communication Design with a minor in Art Education from Pratt Institute.An elected Fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts and Manufactures and Commerce (RSA), London, England — he is the former three-term elected Chair of the department of Art and Design at Montclair State University and Founding Dean of the College of the Arts at California State University, Stanislaus and Dean of the College of the Arts and Communication at William Paterson University respectively. Daryl’s Twenty + years of combined experience working in higher education and in professional practice encompasses Published Book Illustration, Creative Direction in Advertising Design, and Senior Art Direction and Design, specializing in Marketing, Identity and Branding, New Product Launch & Development. He is the author of “Design and the Creative Process” published by Thomson Delmar (now Cengage) and was appointed Dean of the College of the Arts and Communication (COAC) at William Paterson University in 2013, where he hired a talented and dedicated faculty and staff comprised of emerging and established artists scholars, Grammy Award winners & nominees, Guggenheim Fellows and Fulbright Scholars. He rebranded the College as a community of "Makers, Thinkers, Performers and Doers leading the COAC for seven years — advancing and developing pre-professional and liberal arts degree programs in Music, Theatre & Comedy, Communication and the Visual Arts, while managing an operational budget of approximately twelve million dollars and raising over three million dollars in extramural and grant funding under his leadership.Informed by an urban and global perspective, gleaned through profound experiences in professional practice, pedagogy and the transparency of holistic leadership, he embraces inclusion and diversity, belonging and empathy and importantly, the ideals of shared governance and shared goals. Daryl believes in the transformative power of the arts and civic engagement and he remains focused on achieving excellence in higher education, across the disciplinary spectrum, in the preparation of students as agents of change and discovery — vital to a sustainable and global society. He is now seeking new opportunities in higher education in the challenging role of executive and senior administration leadership.
