I founded AAS in April 2006 to help North America row crop farmers manage the spatial variability of their profit. The company began as a financial consultant to the high tech farmer. With the help of a growing team and a couple acquisitions, I grew the company to become a regional leader in our field. Along the way we began dabbling in software development to streamline internal operations with custom built tools. This evolved into a bigger thesis related to mobile internet and site specific weather data usage on the farm.In 2008 we began a transition to become Software as a Service (SaaS) platform. My marketing team and I used strong inbound marketing principles to influence and guide both product development and sales. In late 2011 we introduced a mobile web app, SaaS platform dubbed Optimizer 2.0. Adoption and sales increased dramatically. Acquisition talks started with several companies in late 2013 and early 2014.I learned a ton with this company and met some amazing people. During AAS's rapid growth I built and purchased two Management Intensive Grazing, seasonal dairies right in the middle of corn country. My objective was to launch a branded cheese processing plant. I recruited away managers from two large dairies to oversee my two new businesses. However, the milk market took a plunge directly after launch and my hedges weren't enough. I learned the inverse thrill of debt and lost money for the first time. I was in my 20's. Cut me some slack.

I dominated my high school applied economics class with a county wide yard sale. I started borrowing money and hedging grain while in college. Most of this education spawns from my parents who told me I could do anything I wanted. I believed them. By the time I graduated college I was making more than twice my classmates, and had a net worth greater than most of my friend's parents. My biggest regret is that I didn't start earlier.
