As a principal engineer, I have led the reorganisation of the company's AWS accounts to make better use of AWS organisations to help with security, isolation of workloads and better visibility of our AWS resources.I am keen that an organisation should empower their engineers, giving them freedom to do what is necessary to do their job whilst maintaining the security of the system.

As a senior platform engineer at Wealth Wizards was thrown into the deep end with learning Kubernetes. We spun up multiple Kubernetes clusters in AWS using KOPS and customised them to run our workloads efficiently. They were built to be resilient to availability zone failures.As part of this, I developed the ability to patch all our EC2 instances via an automated process, starting with building new, up to date machine images that would then be rolled out across our infrastructure.

As principal engineer I lead a team to revolutionise how we delivered software, by moving to a container based delivery reducing dependencies across projects and empowering engineers to deliver their own software through all environments and into production.

As a Lead Software Engineer I started investigating and introducing improvements to the development and delivery process at the same time as working on delivering business value. Some key areas of improvements were managing database changes through the use of a change management tool rather than adhoc scripts, automation of software deployments to provide repeatable, reliable delivery through to production and improved server management through the use of configuration management.

As part of a scrum team, I developed RESTful and asynchronous services to provide key business functions, working with technologies like: Java, Spring, Jboss, Postgresql and HornetQ. I then moved on to act as lead for a small team for a discrete project around our small and medium enterprise customers. This involved working with similar technologies, but also working closely with other development areas and third parties to ensure a complete working solution could be delivered.

During my time in this role we developed a proof of concept to take the Bynx product offerings that have been developed over the last 20 years and ensuring that they will continue on for the next 20 years. This involved looking at areas of improvements both from a technical as well as user experience point of view.

As a Java Developer, I was heavily involved in the development and support of a number of web applications. I played a key role in improving the build and release process of all our applications.

This role gave me a broad range of experience in application development and support, from working with individual customers to produce a solution that meets their needs, to investigating and resolving issues as quickly as possible.
