I am a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Nurse. I have taken care of newborn babies who are delivered pre-term (neonates) or at-term newborns who experience complications at the time of birth or were born deformed. I have provided intensive total care for babies, including both medical needs and basic daily care activities. - Cares for infants transitioning to extrauterine life- Provides age and culturally appropriate care to the patient- Provides nutritional and specialized feedings- Changes dressings, starts IVs - Provides arterial & intravenous therapy- Monitors and adjusts specialized equipment used on patients, such as incubators and ventilators- Prepares and administers and records prescribed medications. Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments- Monitors vital signs and initiates corrective action whenever the patient display adverse symptomatology, communicates the patient’s condition to the care team- Assist treating physician during examination, treatment, and procedures, which can include the life-saving situation- Instructs and educates the patient’s family- Participates in discharge planning- Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format, and on the appropriate forms
