They were impacting consumers and the whole marketplace.I started working on a fake review database, purchasing fake review data from the very people that sell fake reviews to businesses. They would ask, so how many reviews do you need? I'd say, nono I'm not a regular customer - I want to buy all of the data from all the fake reviews you have ever sold. Some would sell, some wouldn't. However, after 2k-3k fake reviews in my dataset, I knew it wasn't nearly enough. I knew I needed to climb the ladder and meet bigger fake review sellers. I finally made a contact and we agreed to meet in person.I went flew to India to meet a major player in the fake review space, with a dataset of over 1+ million fake reviews sold.India is a fascinating place, I've never experienced poverty like it before. When you see the overwhelming poverty in India with your own eyes, it's easy to understand why so many take to careers in Black Hat Reputation Management. There's zero punishment in these countries for fake reviews, and there's a HUGE demand for it here in the USA. In 2019 and 2020, Google Maps removed 130 million fake reviews.Now that I had enough data, I realized I needed to either hire a full-time data scientist or learn how to do it myself.I went back to school at MIT for Data Science and Machine Learning and I started working on metrics to understand fake reviews better.When COVID-19 first hit, Google stopped responding to review disputes. Objection.co came to a complete halt as we couldn't perform any services for our customers. I decided to put the pedal to the metal on fake review data analysis, and about a year later we are happy to bring our MVP to market.

I was my last semester, $30,000 in debt and was rotating through the ER where I was precepting. One of the cosmetic surgeons came into the ER to do a consult, he was in a terrible mood because a patient left him a terrible review that was really hurting his private practice. I told him that I might be able to remove it for him, he jokingly said he'd pay off my student loans if I did. I told him how much in Student Loans I had, and he said he'd probably lost more than that already in the week that the review had been up since it lost him 7-8 new consultations. The next day I called his office and asked him if he was serious about his offer he made in the ER - he said he was. I spend the net 72 in research mode, flagging and disputing the bad review like crazy. I couldn't get it off, the review administrators were adamant and I was really discouraged. I ended up flying to San Francisco during the weekend and was cruising local coffee shops next to the HeadQuarters of this review website to see if I could meet someone who might be able to help me. I ended up meeting a senior-level executive who formerly worked in the review removal department who gave me the lowdown. They provided detailed instructions on what to do any say in order to get the review removed. With this advice, I flew back home and got to work. Within 48 hours I had the review removed, within another 48 hours I had a check for $30,000. That was the day I realized I could solve a problem for thousands of business owners and really make an impact in their life. That particular doctor was on the board of directors for the entire physician network, so within a week I had 500+ clients, a CPA and my own growing business. That was 9 years ago. I have since gone back to school for computer science, started my own software company and specialized in AI/ML to help detect fake reviews for business owners, consumers and government.Thanks for listening. -
