Davis, California

I was employed as a fire ecologist at UC Davis, jointly funded by The Nature Conservancy and U.S. Forest Service. During that time I primarily worked on wildfire and vegetation modeling but also spent time in the field collecting data. I left in 2010 to pursue an opportunity to return to Iowa.

Fairbanks, Alaska

In 2008 I took a leave of absence from my fire ecologist position with TNC and the US Forest Service to pursue a long-time goal of working on an Interagency Hotshot Crew. Before working with Chena, I spent one summer on an engine crew in Ketchum, Idaho with the Sawtooth National Forest; one summer in Grand Marais, Minnesota on a fuels crew with the Superior National Forest; and one summer in Hailey, Idaho with the Sawtooth Helirappellers.
