Before I left California for Iowa, I supervised a field crew through UC Davis. We worked across California- from Susanville to San Bernardino- collecting data in areas burned by recent wildfires. Our data collection included areas in which fuels had been altered before burning. We collected data on understory plants, overstory trees, shrubs, and fire.

I was employed as a fire ecologist at UC Davis, jointly funded by The Nature Conservancy and U.S. Forest Service. During that time I primarily worked on wildfire and vegetation modeling but also spent time in the field collecting data. I left in 2010 to pursue an opportunity to return to Iowa.
