As the Managing Director of the Energy Authority of Suriname, I oversaw the strategic planning and management of the organization and its role in the development and regulation of the energy sector in Suriname. My role involved guiding policies and initiatives that ensure sustainable, efficient, and affordable energy supply. This entailed collaboration with government bodies, industry stakeholders, and international partners to develop and implement a regulatory framework for the energy sector. My focus was mostly on harnessing Suriname's natural resources, like hydroelectric power and potential renewable sources, to meet national energy demands while also promoting environmental sustainability. As the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, my role was mostly focused on help shaping and implementing policies related to energy, mining, and water resources. I was responsible for all policy related, organizational and budgetary operations and the strategic oversight and coordination of mentioned sectors, ensuring that they align with the national and government development goals and sustainable practices.In the area of energy, my focus was on developing policies that promoted the efficient and sustainable use of Suriname's energy resources, including the exploration of renewable energy sources. I oversaw the process for the establishment of the EAS and its underlying laws that encourage investment in energy infrastructure while ensuring energy accessibility and affordability for all citizens.For mining, my role involved the development of policies that balance economic growth with environmental conservation. The policy was to ensure that mining activities were conducted responsibly, with adequate measures for the protection of ecosystems and adherence to international standards. I was in charge of the execution of policies that aimed to maximize the sector's contributions to the national economy while minimizing the ecological footprint.Regarding water resources, my responsibilities included the formulation of policies/laws that ensured the sustainable management and use of Suriname's water resources. This encompasses the protection of water quality, and the efficient management of water supply for various uses.Collaboration with various stakeholders, including government agencies, industry experts, local communities, and international bodies, was a key part of my role. I was focused on facilitating dialogues and partnerships that supported the effective management of natural resources in Suriname. In order to ensure that policies in these sectors were forward-looking, environmentally responsible, and beneficial to the development of the country.
