It seemed that working for computer businesses meant that we were sold, merged, got acquired, sold again, it was simply nuts. During all this, I found myself owning a couple of small computer companies. One of these companies caught the attention of an engineer I'd worked with in the past and he asked me to help develop Mercury Data Group. That was fun and we grew it from 2 to more than 50 employees with multiple locations. We had a system that we called the MX mail system. We had an early direct internet connection and would use modems to be an internet gateway (and mail translation system) to and from all sorts of email systems. This was before most businesses had an internet connection. We had gateways for Groupwise, CC Mail, Microsoft mail and Domino. It's actually this MX Mail network that got us in the doors of many businesses and helped us grow.MDGI was a Cisco, Citrix and Microsoft partner and we pulled off some pretty cool projects like the "Special Winter Olympics" and helped GCI roll-out School Access which connected village schools in a big LDAP network.
