CHSS was originally established in 1992. Corporate Health & Safety Solutions Ltd was created as a result of a MBO from the University of Glamorgan Commercial Services.CHSS provided IOSH courses and the NEBOSH Certificate and Diploma.Projects undertaken include:Designed and implemented a robust safety management systems, based on OHSAS 18001. Designed specific H&S audit proformas, which were followed up by an extensive audit programme.Audits, including electrical safety for major utilities companies, and Blue Chip Company manufacturing and logistic facilities. Undertaken DSEAR risk assessments and hazardous area classification studies for multi-national clients. Undertaken fire risk assessment and risk assessment programmes for numerous organisations.Designed, implemented and delivered many tailored and accredited courses for the CHSS portfolio.Responsibilities:-Health and Safety Adviser to CHSS, developing and implementing the health and safety management programme, and chair of health and safety committee.Technical review team member.The maintenance and accreditation of all NVQ level 3 accredited courses.Updating all NVQ level 6 accredited courses.Undertaking various specialised and general health and safety audit reviews and gap analysis programmes for local authorities and national private sector organisations. The findings are then evaluated, leading to practical recommendations.Presenting a variety of health and safety training courses to a wide range of national and international clients. These courses include IOSH, NEBOSH accredited and numerous non-accredited courses.

ResponsibilitiesHealth and Safety Adviser to L’Oréal, developing and implementing the health and safety management policies and procedures, especially to ensure compliance with the introduction of the ‘six pack’ legislation.Fire safety contracts and all insurance audits / inspections.CIMAH/COMAH site Emergency Response Team Manager, including mock exercise training.The safety of plant and equipment via the ‘validation’ programme, which included authorising existing plant and processes, and new equipment purchases. Validation included authorisation of processes under electrical, mechanical and chemical safety standards.Authority to shut down any process for safety reasons. Advise the company on the electrical, mechanical and structural safety of new process installations.Assessing and authorising safe methods of manufacture.Statutory reporting of accidents, ensuring all accidents were investigated, the collation, and detailed analysis of, accident statistics and liaison with Insurers.The safe running and maintenance of the LPG installation.

Responsible for plant and equipment maintenance programme in a large manufacturing plant and managing major capital design and installation projects. This included managing employees and contractors, completion of method statements and risk assessments, general, hot work and confined space permits and delivery of safety inductions.

Responsible for statutory inspection regimes, plant running, electrical and mechanical maintenance and repair.

Initially recruited as a Marine Engineer Officer Cadet, on completion of my training I was responsible as a lone engineering officer for the engine room activities on both refined spirit and very large crude carrying (VLCC) oil tankers.
