I started at Barclays in 2007 as a cashier. Here I learnt about the importance of customer service, the ways in which the bank help their customers and to be part of a larger team. At this time, business and foreign tills were separate to standard ones and I requested to be up-skilled to use all tills. I also processed cheques on an older processing system.After being a cashier for about 18 months, I became a personal banker. Here I learnt how to help customers with their everyday banking, some more complex issues and account servicing. I learnt more about regulated products such as lending and insurances in my time as a personal banker.After about 2 years in this role I progressed to business manager. Primarily I meet new business owners as they start their new business. I offer advise on how the bank can help and set them up with the basics at the very least. I will help existing customers with their future borrowing needs and any other issues they may need support with. Again I am part of a team however I am the only point of contact at the branch I am based for these business customers.After being in this role for around 3 years I moved on to relationship management for a portfolio of customers. I look after approx 130 businesses at present. I support these customers by being their direct point of contact, helping them with their banking needs including international support and lending money.
