As a Director, I enjoy the challenges of managing managers. I found it critical to make sure all managers go through management training. This gives new managers a toolkit they have not previously needed. My role became more focused on ensuring my teams were doing good work and my managers where supporting and growing their staff. My goal is to be a role model and a leadership coach for my managers.In 2018 I moved into a Sr. Dev Management position from a Sr. Test Management position, which I held for 13 year. By end of year, I moved into a Director position. I manage 2 Dev teams and 1 Test team. This has given me the opportunity to get much more involved on the development side of the SDLC. It has also allowed me the opportunity to work more closely with our Field and Product Management team, helping me better understand the needs/expectations of our customers. In this role I also own Customer Escalations.Before this I was responsible for the Test Management of teams and projects throughout the projects life cycle. Projects consisted of over 200 testers and test managers across 6 locations. Being Project Test Management Lead for projects consisted of weekly meetings with all Test Management, weekly Test Status Reports, weekly Project Meetings, daily management of defects and test cases, daily meetings with Project Management and daily interaction with testers and test managers at remote locations.

Lead testing of WRQ's TCP/IP stack running on Windows. Also Lead a small team of testers, testing an NFS client, gateway and server.

I was the first tester in a startup. I was given the opportunity to manage the team of new testers but, decided to stay technical; however, I took the lead on hiring a manager and 5 new testers to build out the first test team for Netmotion.The product I tested gave the user of mobile devices the ability to ROAM from access point to access point, crossing IP networks and automatically getting new IP addresses for the new networks they were on. This allowed for current sessions to stay active while roaming.

I was a tester and eventually a test lead in Research Triangle Park, NC. My teams focus was on IBMs networking technology. This was primarily their routers and switches. I did this for 4-5 years, then moved into the "field", to be part of IBMs Global Services division.The skills I brought to IBMs customers, after being in Product Development for 5 years, were greatly valued. I gained many long and short term contracts with customers in the Pacific Northwest. The two years I spent working with IBMs customers were some of the most challenging and rewarding of my career. To this day, I am a HUGE advocate for the customers of the products my teams test, as I've seen first hand the challenges large and small customers have, the problems these customers run into and the impact of those problems on their business.
