Genealogical Research This course is for beginning and intermediate level family historians. In the first two sessions we will explore principles and building blocks for successful family history research and will learn searching techniques for identifying relevant information on free and pay sites on the Internet. We will apply these principles and searching techniques to the particular challenges and opportunities to document our families as we advance backward through various periods of US History. The four big documentary groups of census, property, probate and vital records will be featured along with other information created as our ancestors immigrated and served in the military. The last session will introduce how we can unleash the family history information in our genes through DNA testing. The course is based on the instructor’s 2011 book Crash Course in Genealogy which is not required.
