As a Policy Analyst with the Veterans Benefits Administration, Compensation Service, I write regulations based on quantitative and qualitative analyses of legislation, court decisions and advances in medical science.I assist VBA medical officers in updating the VA Schedule of Rating Disabilities. I also write regulations which directly impact our continuing mission to provide excellent customer service to our Veterans and their families.I am a subject matter expert in the administration of Veterans benefits, the Rating Schedule, and VBA Policies and Procedures. My input is sought on a wide variety of subjects daily.

As a Rating Quality Review Specialist, I reviewed rating decisions for quality and accuracy. I served as a technical expert in rating compensation and pension claims. I provided training and mentoring to the rating teams, and advised management on how to proceed with the most complex cases pending before the board.I had de novo review authority, to review and change prior rating decisions. I conducted hearings, and made decisions based on a review of all available evidence pending before the V.A.. I regularly worked on special projects to improve quality and timeliness both for the station, and for the Veterans Administration as a whole. I identified and tracked errors, and conducted error trend analyses, in order to determine what training or changes would improve the quality and timeliness of rating decisions.I am a subject matter expert in all areas of rating compensation and pension claims. My knowledge of body systems, and disease processes, as well as the pertinent laws and court rulings and how they impact rating decisions was sought out by management on a daily basis.

As a Cavalry Scout, I led a squad on reconnaissance and direct action missions in combat. I was responsible for over 3.5 million dollars worth of equipment.I served as my platoon’s communications and medical Sergeant. I led, trained and mentored a squad of soldiers.
