I lead a group of eight statisticians, epidemiologists and data scientists at a UCSF housing and homelessness research center addressing one of the most critical issues in California, and nationwide. At any given time, our team is engaged in 40+ different academic and policy research projects, working with dozens of principal investigators and lead authors. While working as a statistician at the Labor Center, I completed my PhD, primarily on causal inference in experiments and secondarily on machine learning techniques to improve turnout in get-out-the-vote campaigns. The dissertation addressed causal inference issues pertinent to large scale human subject experiments, which complicate estimating treatment effects such as multiple treatment levels, noncompliance to experimental protocol and interactions among subjects.
