Currently, I manage the complete Engineering stack: Application Development, Platform Architecture, QA, Governance & Security, and DevOps.Currently, I'm building a dynamic Engineering team at captiv8 - the best Social Influencer Marketing platform ever conceived. In the past, I've transformed a monolithic codebase in multiple platforms to a more scalable, agile architecture. This sped up development time and drove down costs.I've designed and implemented an event-based microservices architecture is geared to facilitate change and speed the integration of technology from acquisitions. It protects data integrity, is fault-tolerant, and is quickly recoverable, shortening data corruption repair time by over 90%.I have also managed several products such as Tag Management, Android and iOS Mobile SDKs, Personalized Video, Creative Performance, and Fraud Detection. I manage technologies consisting of Hadoop, Cassandra, Java, Spring, Hibernate, ActiveMQ, JavaScript, SWIFT, Objective C, Node, Angular, video rendering, and encoding. The products I manage are responsible for over half a billion dollars in revenue and have uptimes higher than 99.99999%However, the essential part of my efforts aren't in the products, projects, or revenue - but in my development of people into leaders. At the end of the day, every company ships its culture. I focus on building pride, ownership, quality (and a bit of fun) into the teams and organizations that I lead. It's not just about making good decisions, but about creating a culture where you make, create, iterate over, and grow your product and processes to build an organization that excels. In sales, I've have been a critical representative for Conversant in conversations with eBay, PayPal, Office Depot, American Apparel, and others.I've stabilized and reinvigorated dying products, launched new products, and created frameworks to build into the future. I managed five mobile applications in both Android and KDS as well as configuration and a front-facing suite of Microservices. Reporting up through me ranges from 50-200 full-time employees and contractors, depending on our development needs.Since joining I've implemented standardized version control, versioning, CI, build, and deploy processes for multiple products. I've launched a refactoring of our largest codebase with an emphasis of looser coupling, faster builds, increased testing, and higher team ownership.I've started migrating the company away from feature-driven teams to platform-based teams to decrease troubleshooting time, increase ownership, and drive quality.I've implemented process changes to increase cross-team architecture using Initiative Story Mapping, Epic Story Mapping, and story kickoffs, Gherkin style Acceptance Criteria, and RCA on bugs, blockers, and poorly specified stories.Technologies include Kotlin, java, swift, objective C, GoLang, PHP (sadly), ReactJS, vueJS, AWS and Bitrise.I've managed our contractor relationships, and centralized management of our team structure to help the organization understand the ways Product, Project, and Engineering work together.

Director Of Engineering

Chicago, Illinois, Us

Working at Conversant involved six major projects over my tenure. As Director of Engineering, I architected and implemented an Event-Based Micro-services system spanning our entire ad configuration system. I managed the creative (ad) layer of our ad stack, a system that consisted of nine microservices. The stack utilized Java, Spring Boot, Node, Redis, Kafka, Angular, Oracle, Postgres, Linux, and Windows environments. It is dockerized and scales on our internal cloud, but could easily be deployed to AWS or other cloud providers.I used a modified kanban approach (designed to foster leadership and ownership) with a non-integrated QA but have used and managed integrated QA as well. I've managed local and remote teams in both the US and overseas in Columbia and India. In migrating to the new architecture, I've divided up my products and either created new teams or sent the functionality into other teams to reduce development costs. This included the re-architecture of the entire Video Ad Delivery System for Conversant, a product that generates over $100MM a year in revenue.Previous projects include:- Conversant Tag Manager, A tag management system used to consolidate the deployment of Conversant and other companies' products and services. It still has 100% uptime since 2012 and has been run by Managers that I mentored and trained to fill the position.- A $70MM mobile SDK platform consisting of over 20 projects and supporting iOS and Android.- A personalized video project creating geo-targeted, personalized videos for Fortune 500 companies. (integrated into the new architecture with a 10X increase in performance)- I also launched and managed our Header Bidding Product, HTML5 product, and Creative Validation and Monitoring Service.- I turned around a text-based ad stack called Search123 (a subsidiary brand) and increased the revenue from $13MM to $50MM in 2 years.
