Under the general direction of the President/CEO, is responsible for providing overall leadership and direction for the Oshawa PUC Networks Inc. (OPUCN) Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS), health and safety programs and associated functions. This position provides the necessary subject matter expertise, support and coordination to ensure the sound proactive management of these functions. Successfully completed COR audit for second year with a score of 98%. Oversee and manage all WSIB and non-occupational claims and return to work program. Works with students, temporary workers, contractors, full time staff, supervisors, managers and executive team in all areas of the organization as it pertains to health and safety; Through research and analysis provides for the development and implementation of health and safety training programs for construction, maintenance, etc. of power systems and for administrative personnel and Managers. Administer and further develops corporate loss control program as it pertains to health and safety, environment, including accident/incident investigation, corporate conformance and legislative compliance with OHS Acts and Regulations, maintenance of corporate records and documentation and recommend corrective action, as they apply to areas of responsibility Ensure the safety of administration/operations personnel by scheduling mandatory training, conducting monthly safety meetings for staff. Complete crew / site inspections and audits of administration/operations personnel for conformance with OPUCN policies and procedures, the OHS Act & Regulations for Construction Projects, OHS Industrial Regulations and the Electrical Safety Authority Safety Rules. Administer WSIB claims management program. Works with department managers to arrange for modified duties for employees returning to work involved in a workplace related injury

Planned, developed and implemented a nationwide Health and Safety Management system; including training, strategies, policies, procedures, documentation and compliance throughout six provinces consisting of approximately 3500 employees in over 50 company locations. Reduced year-over-year lost-time injuries and collisions as a result of initiating mandatory increased, consistent training and accountability for all district management teams in Canada. Consolidated provincial workers’ compensation representation, and realized significant refunds and reduced remittance costs throughout Canada, through a developed structured reporting and claims management process.
