Profile bio

About Dave Henry

Working across the agricultural industries in Australia, my focus is firmly on capturing value from new technologies. This includes the development and application of new information-based (digital) technologies to support information-intensive agriculture and especially management of farms/landscapesTo remain profitable in an increasingly variable and volatile operating environment, farmers need to drive further productivity gains, a challenge that will involve greater flexibility in their strategic, tactical and operational decisions. Decisions will need to be taken with an understanding of risk, and how they impact across the whole farm business system. Staying the same is simply not a sound economic option for most farm businesses as the cost/price squeeze means reduced profit if productivity gains are not made. Add to this the added scrutiny around ensuring animal welfare and environmental impacts. Viable and resilient farm businesses will need to make sense of what they know as they come to know it, and then make very fine-grain, accurate and timely decisions. My skills and interests include:• Science innovation & leadership• Deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities across the agricultural industries• High level of scientific and technical understanding as it relates to farming systems and the role of digital technologies• Sensor technologies, spatial informatics, GIS systems, data-model fusion, all specifically in the context of capturing value for key stakeholders and end-users• Communicating, engaging and influencing a diverse range of stakeholders• Development of key networks across the livestock industries and other sectors, both public & private partners• Capacity to provide strong leadership around the ‘development’ process, to inspire joint action and effective group engagement.

Listed skills include Agriculture, Research, Science, R&D, and 17 others.
